A man with two(2) wives sentenced for rape



A Magistrate's Court sitting in Ikeja, yesterday sentenced a 45-year-old commercial motorcyclist and husband of two wives, Alabi Bakare, to five years imprisonment for raping three minors. Magistrate A. Isaac, who handed the verdict, said the sentence would be without an option of fine. He said since the accused had pleaded guilty to the offence, the court had no option than to sentence him as charged.

The News Agency of Nigeria,NAN, reports that the accused, who was arraigned on August 8, had pleaded guilty to a charge of having carnal knowledge of the minors aged between three and five.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Barth Nwaokoye, told the court that Bakare
raped the minors on August  3 at 7 p.m. at 19, Oluwakemi Street, Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos metropolis. Bakare was caught in the act by a co-tenant, who reported the matter to the police, he said. He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
